In-Person Fall Hide Work

On September 17 & 18, 2022, I will be hosting In-Person Fall Hide Work at my home south of Sioux Lookout, Ontario. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day I will be working on a moose hide to get it ready for frost scraping in the Winter. If you're able to attend those days, you're welcome to join me and try this hands-on, physical, messy, and satisfying work.

The work involved will be:

  • Skinning the hide off the animal (won’t be done in-person)
  • Soaking/rinsing the hide
  • Fleshing the hide
  • Shaving the hair off the hide
  • Cutting lacing holes into the hide
  • Stretching the hide on a frame to dry OR
  • Freezing the hide
  • Extracting brain and marrow fat

This event is free to attend. Participants are to respect the space and people you're sharing it with, are responsible for your own transportation, meals and beverages, and use an outhouse for toilet. At times we will be working closely together and I require participants to be vaccinated against COVID-19. If you're feeling sick, please stay home.

Registration for In-Person Fall Hide Work is closed.

Thank you for your interest in working on a moose hide with me!  This is the 1st of 4 in-person events I will be hosting as part of my 4-Season Moose Hide Tanning program. I hope you'll be able to join me for Winter Hide Work.

I acknowledge the support of Canada Council for the Arts.  It is with their support of this project that I am able to offer this at no cost to participants.
