Virtual Year-Round Hide Tanning - Part 2 - Winter Hide Work

Winter Hide Work is the second part of a 3-part online series called Virtual Year-Round Hide Tanning. In the series Kanina shares how she tans hides year-round to make smoked hide aka brain tanned hide aka buckskin. The series is an accumulation of 6 years of knowledge gathering and skill building. The focus is on moose hide tanning, however the techniques can be used for other animal hides.

PLEASE NOTE: this option does not come with access to session recordings or slides. The Full Series option does.

Winter hide work includes:

• Hydrating prepped hide OR
• Thawing prepped hide
• Adding lacing holes
• Stretching the hide on a frame to freeze
• Frost scraping hair and grain
• Frost scraping membrane
• Thinning hide
• Freeze drying hides
• Tools and equipment used

This will be presented live on Zoom twice this Winter:
December 13, 2023 @ 6-8 p.m. CT/Winnipeg time
January 13, 2024 @ 1-3 p.m. CT/Winnipeg time
